BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA) — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) here in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) have launched the printing services livelihood project of the Persons Deprived of Liberty Survivors Organization(PDL Survivors Org.) at the Mountain Province District Jail.
Last Feb. 12, they led the blessing of the printing equipment and the soft launching of the P450,000 -worth micro-enterprise development project under the Sustainable Livelihood Project (SPL) of the DSWD.
This aims to provide significant support to the 30 members of the PDL Survivors Org. helping them financially and creating opportunities for a better future.
The printing services the PDLs offer include tarpaulin printing, customized mug printing, sublimation and vinyl print of tote bags and t- shirts, and stickers.
DSWD SWAD Team Leader Carmencita Chaluyen emphasized that DSWD’s goal is to provide opportunities to all, no matter their background. She urged the PDLs to take good care of the equipment and to sustain the livelihood project granted to them.
“Arapapap mi nga maikkan amin ti equal opportunities, regardless iti sitwasyon iti biyag. Isu garod nga uray nu adda tayu ditoy uneg ti jail, padasen tayu nga i-implement ta baka met feasible, ”she said.
[We strive to give equal opportunities to all, regardless of situation in, that is why even in jail, we try to implement (this program), maybe it is feasible.]
Jail Senior Inspector Bartolome Tresmanio highlighted the project’s importance in social protection initiatives for PDLs, allowing them to earn while inside the correctional facility. He stressed the need for teamwork to ensure the project’s success.
SPL Provincial Coordinator Caroline Alzate said the program will help the PDLs to have peace of mind since they will be able to send money to their loved ones from the funds raise through the project. (JDP/VJLT-PIA CAR, Mountain Province)
