PDRRMC CamSur orders pre-emptive evacuation

LEGAZPI CITY (PIA) – In response to intense rainfall and widespread flooding across Camarines Sur, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) Chairperson, Gov. Luigi Villafuerte, has issued a memorandum early on Dec 1, instructing municipal chief executives and DRR officers to enforce pre-emptive evacuations, particularly in the province’s 2nd District.

As of press time, 11 barangays in the municipality of Libmanan were inundated, prompting the evacuation of 38 families comprising 133 individuals.

Flooding has also been reported in other areas, including municipalities of Cabusao, Lupi, and Ragay in the 1st District; Lagonoy and Siruma in the 4th District; and Baao and Buhi in the 5th District. These incidents bring the total number of affected barangays to 25, with over 62 families (252 individuals) relocated to safer grounds.

Governor Villafuerte’s directive aligns with PAGASA’s Heavy Rainfall or Red Warning Level, emphasizing the urgency of precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, two senior citizens were reported missing after attempting to cross a spillway in Barangay Biong, Cabusao, using an e-bike. After the e-bike was recovered, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Cabusao deployed a search and rescue team to locate the missing individuals.

The PDRRMC of Camarines Sur continues to urge residents to remain vigilant as the DOST-PAGASA forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall (50-100mm) from Sunday night through Monday night, December 2.

PAGASA has warned of localized flooding in low-lying and urbanized areas, as well as the possibility of landslides in highly vulnerable zones. Residents are advised to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety. (PIA 5)
