PDRRMO reminds motorists to always practice safe driving to avoid vehicular accidents

BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA) — The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reiterated the advisory for the public especially the motorists to stay vigilant, be careful in traversing the roads especially when not familiar with the terrain, and avoid speeding.

This following the road accident at sitio Ampawilen in Poblacion, Sadanga, Mountain Province at around 10:00 PM on April 4, 2025 , which resulted to the death of five individuals and injuries to nine others.

The Sadanga Municipal Police Station reported that a white Nissan van with local tourists onboard slipped, fell down a 50-meter height cliff, and landed in the river resulting in the death of five individuals including the driver.

Four died on the spot while one was declared dead on arrival at the Bontoc General Hospital where the injured were also rushed for medical treatment.

Based on reports, the group booked a travel and tour package and was headed towards Buscalan, Kalinga when the incident occurred.

PDRRMO Information Officer designate Laycha K. Marra reminded that following traffic signs is imperative when traveling unfamiliar roads, and cautious driving is crucial to avoid any vehicular accident.

“We advise all motorists to be vigilant and be cautious in driving. Also, follow traffic signs especially if it’s your first time traveling the roads of Mountain Province. Avoid speeding,” she said.

The Sadanga MPS also advises that driving safely should take precedence over anything, especially in the roads in province which are narrow and winding and where falling rocks can occur anytime. Moreover, drivers should always drive defensively and to always check their vehicle before traveling. (JDP/VJLT-PIA-CAR, Mountain Province)
