Peace and security vital to Calabarzon’s economic growth

CALAMBA CITY (PIA) — Economic managers are pushing for stricter peace and security measures to sustain the Calabarzon region’s economic growth.

Angela Legaspi, senior economic specialist at the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 4A, highlighted the efforts of law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order as key to the region’s continuous growth.

“Our economy experienced both challenges and improvement as innovation, youth, and public safety efforts showed positive outcomes. Despite these challenges, we recognize the region’s strong commitment to public safety and resilience, particularly in law enforcement.”

Aside from the region’s peace and security, the Calabarzon region’s thriving livestock, poultry, and fisheries sectors were crucial in boosting the regional economy.

Legaspi emphasized the need for stricter peace and security measures ahead of the 2025 National and Local Elections and the holiday season. Despite these challenges, NEDA praised the continuous modernization, upskilling, and improved investigative capabilities of law enforcement.

“We still need to strengthen our peace and security, especially in anticipation of the upcoming elections and summer vacation. Addressing and resolving crime incidents in Calabarzon will also serve as key indicators in community trust.”

Enhanced peace and order mechanisms have boosted tourism, evident in the surge of passenger traffic during the holiday season.

In an interview with the Philippine Information Agency’s Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, the Department of Tourism (DOT) reported a significant increase in overnight tourist arrivals in CALABARZON with 12,270,849—a 30 percent increase from 9,405,266 in 2023. Meanwhile, Same Day Arrivals in 2024 surged to 160,788,213 from 112,517,404 in the previous year. (PB/PIA4A)
