BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – – Australia and the Philippines have further enhanced their relationship with the leaders of the two countries recently agreeing to elevate it into a strategic partnership.
This was affirmed by Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Hae Kyong Yu, in a press conference at the Sierra Pines Hotel in Baguio City on Friday (May 17).

Yu shared that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. have entered into a bilateral agreement to elevate the Philippines – Australian relationship to a strategic alliance to achieve a region that is stable, peaceful and prosperous for all.
Aside from the areas of economics, trade and investments, Ru also affirmed a strong defense cooperation between Australia and the Philippines.
“We have a fantastic defense cooperation relationship, where for many, many years we have been working together to further strengthen your defense capabilities and we were right there when the Marawi siege happened and we were working with you ever since to help you and the government get on top of the terrorism issues especially in Mindanao,” Yu said.
“In more recent times, we are doing more and more in the maritime security space, and recently, we have combined maritime activity involving US, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines”, she added.
The Australian Embassy in the Philippines, in coordination with the City Government of Baguio, held a series of activities in the City of Pines on May 17-19 , in celebration of the Australia – Philippines Friendship Day.
Yu also hosted a reception for Baguio – based media practitioners for an Australia – Cordillera Gastronomic Experience, with fusion of various food recipes prepared by Chef Chavi Romawac, popularly known as the Mountain Man. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
