PIDIGAN, Abra (PIA) — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Abra Chapter is continuously empowering more communities on disaster preparedness towards disaster resilience.

PRC-Abra head Jennifer T. Bernal shared during the Saritaan iti Abra media forum that their office offers training courses not only for job seekers but for the community to be disaster ready and responsive.

“We are actually an accredited technical vocational institute by the TESDA and we are proud to mention na hindi lang po dugo ang meron sa amin kng hindi ay we are already training a lot of people when it comes to emergency medical service,” she shared.

Bernal informed that their office offers Emergency Medical Services NCII, Medical Services NCII, Barangay Health Service NCII, Barangay Infectious Disease Management, and Community Nutrition not only to job seekers but to the community as a whole.

“The Emergency Medical Service NC II is a requirement for medical professionals na kailangang-kailangan nila kapag pupunta na sila sa ibang bansa. They are aiming for a national certificate and ang laking tulong na po nito sa kanila,” she explained.

The PRC-Abra also provides training and assessment for Emergency Medical Service NCIII which is a two-year course in college.

“From CAR, Region 1, and Region II, we only have one accredited training and assessment center and this is the PRC-Abra,” Bernal said.

Aside from Emergency Medical Service programs, PRC-Abra gives training on Barangay Health Service NCII which is a component of the Universal Health Care law and a requirement of the Office of the Civil Defense for local governments to have trained barangay health workers.

The PRC-Abra also offers training courses on Barangay Infectious Disease Management. It is looking forward to have a program on Community Nutrition.

With the various training courses and programs of the PRC-Abra, Bernal shared plans to upgrade their emergency medical service technologies to be able to cope with higher level responses.

“We have to be resilient and prepared when it comes to disaster, especially when it comes to responses and rescue operations,” Bernal stressed.

The PRC-Abra is one of the participating offices in the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-led World Café of Opportunities on August 28, 2024 at the Abra Sports Complex in Bangued. (JJPM, PIA-CAR, Abra with Rachelle Joy Alvis, PIA-GIP)
