MANILA (PIA) — In an earnest effort to cushion the adverse effects of natural calamities, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) made sure that every aspect of what could happen was covered via multiple agreements with both the government and the private sector.
This comes as the PRC disclosed entering memoranda of agreement with a long list of institutions, which include hospitals, medical societies, universities, schools, government agencies, and private corporations, to enhance disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
During the simultaneous signing of the agreements at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Paranaque City, PRC Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Dick Gordon finds the multi-sectoral deals “a crucial step ensuring preparedness” for disasters.
Under these deals, the PRC hinted at deploying medical personnel from partner hospitals and medical groups during major emergencies.
Schools and private corporations voted to support PRC initiatives, including blood donation drives and volunteer programs.
PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwen Pang and other officials signed the agreements with representatives from 18 organizations, including St. Mattheus Medical Hospital, Jose Rizal University, and the Philippine National Police.
The event also honored exceptional blood donors from the National Capital Region and Rizal Province who have donated one gallon of blood over a period of time.
According to Dr. Pang, universal access to safe blood supplies would not be possible without donors.
The PRC Rizal Chapter organized the event to strengthen partnerships within its jurisdiction. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
