PH, UAE ink energy transition deal to bring more jobs, investments

MANILA, (PIA) — Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla announced Sunday the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Energy Transition Cooperation between the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The partnership underscores our shared belief that energy is essential for development,” Secretary Lotilla said.

The agreement, which focuses on enhancing collaboration in the energy sector, was finalized during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s working visit to the UAE on November 26.

This initiative has the potential to transform industries and enhance the quality of life for many Filipinos,” he added.

The MOU details a strategic partnership aimed at fostering cooperation in several key areas, including renewable energy, liquefied natural gas (LNG), power generation, and energy efficiency.

It also encompasses advancements in nuclear energy, alternative fuels, and new technologies.

Lotilla also emphasized that the collaboration would leverage the UAE’s expertise in energy innovation alongside the Philippines’ objectives for energy security and sustainability.

Discussions surrounding the MOU were held with UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohamed Faraj Al Mazrouei during Secretary Lotilla’s visit to Abu Dhabi last month.

The dialogue aimed to promote meaningful business partnerships and position the Philippines as an attractive destination for Emirati investments in critical energy sectors.

Looking ahead, Lotilla revealed that an Implementation Agreement with a UAE state-owned company is anticipated by January 2025, paving the way for tangible progress in the energy sector.

This agreement marks a significant step in the Philippines’ efforts to bolster its energy infrastructure and transition towards sustainable energy solutions. (JLN/PIA-NCR)
