QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation Regional Office NCR (PRO NCR) has partnered with the Philippine National Police – Northern District Anti-Cybercrime Team (PNP-NDACT) to strengthen fight against the prevalence of using fake PhilHealth IDs for fraudulent claims and other illegal activities.
The conduct of cyber-patrolling operations is central to the ongoing efforts of combating the distribution of fake PhilHealth IDs, particularly on social media platforms.
During the operation, the PNP-NDACT engaged with an individual identified as “Nelyn Cosme” who was believed to be selling fake PhilHealth IDs along with her husband “Mark Cosme.”
Authorities were able to arrest the husband of the seller which led to the confiscation of six (6) PhilHealth IDs as verified and supported by a certification from PhilHealth Local Health Insurance Office (LHIO) Caloocan.
“These fraudulent activities disrupt legitimate transactions, cause confusion for members, and undermine the public’s confidence in government programs designed to provide essential healthcare services,” the state insurer stressed.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to further identify other individuals or groups involved in the illegal operation.
Those who will be proven guilty of selling counterfeit government IDs can face criminal charges for violations of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
PhilHealth meanwhile urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to fake ID schemes in order to protect the welfare of legitimate beneficiaries and their dependents.
The partnership between the PRO NCR and PNP-NDACT was formalized under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at integrating efforts in tackling cybercrime and identity fraud. (PRO NCR/PIA-NCR)
