MANILA, (PIA) — The Philippine Army marked its 128th founding anniversary on Monday with a gathering at the Philippine Army Officers’ Clubhouse, emphasizing its commitment to national defense under the theme “Matatag na Sandigan ng Bagong Pilipinas.”

Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido addressed the media, stating, “Our theme is a powerful declaration of our enduring commitment to be a steadfast pillar of support for a new and stronger Philippines.”

The anniversary celebration featured the second iteration of the Army-wide unilateral exercise, “Exercise Katihan,” which runs from February 17 to March 22, 2025.

A key event will be the Combined Arms Training Exercise (CATEX) “Katihan” 02-25, scheduled for March 3-22 in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.

The official anniversary program will take place on March 22 at the Headquarters of the Philippine Army, with President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

Lt. Gen. Galido honored the Army’s legacy, highlighting the organization’s crucial role in the nation’s defense.

It is about the bravery of soldiers who serve selflessly, the dedication of our officers who lead with integrity, and the resilience of our entire workforce, both military and civilian,” he said.

The anniversary activities will focus on the health and welfare of soldiers and their families, strategic leadership development, and the empowerment of non-commissioned officers.

Additional initiatives include enhancing the role of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and reserve forces in territorial defense, advancing cybersecurity efforts, and conducting capability demonstrations.

As the Philippine Army celebrates its rich history, it reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the nation and fostering a stronger, united Philippines. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
