Philippine Army marks ‘Araw ng Kagitingan’ countdown, PH Veterans’ Week in Sunrise Ceremony

MANILA, (PIA) — The Philippine Army hosted a Sunrise Ceremony on on April 5, to kick off the Philippine Veterans’ Week and Araw ng Kagitingan at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Libingan ng mga Bayani.

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido served as the Guest of Honor and Speaker, emphasizing the importance of honoring the sacrifices made by Filipino veterans and ensuring their legacy is passed on to future generations.

To the present and younger generation, I call on you to ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten,” Lt. Gen. Galido said. “The responsibility of safeguarding these intangible treasures now rests upon our shoulders. Let us honor their legacy by upholding the values they fought to preserve. Let us make our veterans proud by nurturing a new generation of heroes—brave, resilient, and loyal to the nation and our people.”

The 2025 Veterans’ Week will culminate in the 83rd Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) commemoration on April 9, themed “Kabayanihan ng Beterano: Sandigan ng Kaunlaran ng Bagong Pilipinas.”

The week features several key activities, including the traditional Sunrise Ceremony, which symbolizes the dawn of new hope for the country, and the Sunset Ceremony, held at dusk on the final day of the observance.
