PhilRice showcases new rice production technologies to farmers

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) — The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice)-Isabela showcased its latest technologies and machinery to boost rice production of local farmers during the Lakbay Palay 2025.

The field visit was attended by over 1,000 rice farmers from Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Valentino Perdido, Masagana Rice Industry Development Program (DA-MRIDP) focal person, expressed his appreciation for PhilRice and rice farmer-leaders for their interest in rice production using the newly developed technologies.

PhilRice presented technologies for producing pigmented, glutinous, and aromatic rice varieties. It also demonstrated vegetable production technologies for a variety of crops, such as bitter gourd, tomatoes, chili peppers, and others.

Also, the institution expanded its presentations on sheep production, vermicomposting, biocomposting, vertical hydroponics, drip irrigation systems, and the installation of solar-powered pumps.

PhilRice also showcased the latest machinery developed for rice production, including the laser-guided land leveler, rice seed dispenser, and rice planter.

Perdido said that Lakbay Palay is a platform to encourage rice farmers, farmer leaders, associations, and cooperatives to increase production using these technologies, contributing to the government’s food security agenda. (OTB/MGE/PIA Region 2)
