PHLPost Chair Mike Planas is new Postmaster General, CEO

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – Recently appointed Chairman of the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) Board of Directors Mike Planas has been concurrently elected Postmaster General and chief executive officer (CEO) of the country’s post office.

Planas officially assumed office on Tuesday, June 18, during the annual election of PHLPost, expressing his commitment to revitalize the mail and parcel service industry and the national postal system as a whole by integrating digital transformation.

“With a wide network of more than 1,200 post offices in the country, there is an untapped potential and challenge to bring the post office up to pace with modern delivery practices while servicing the most remote or missionary areas,” said Planas.

“You don’t expect commercial couriers to deliver mail and packages to far flung areas, but The Post Office can and will continue to serve the public—wherever they are,” he added.

Under the leadership of Planas, PHLPost is expected to develop new product lines and build strategic alliances aimed at boosting the revenues of the post office towards increasing its dividend contribution to the government.

Logistics, in particular, is one of the core competencies that Planas wants to strengthen in order to improve the effectiveness of the flow of mail and goods as well as the efficiency of its service delivery.

PHLPost will also work closely with its warehouse facilities and e-commerce hubs to invest in growth opportunities that will allow the post office to better meet the postal service needs of its Filipino clientele from the Philippines and international community.

Chairman and concurrent Postmaster General and CEO Mike Planas built his academic foundation in University of the Philippines Diliman, American University, and the Asian Institute of Management (AIM).

He previously took on the role as Quezon City Councilor and United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization Consultant.

The Asian-Pacific Postal Union (APPU) recently extended its congratulations to Planas after he was appointed Chairman of the PHLPost Board of Directors. Planas, in turn, expressed his interest in collaborating with other member countries of the union.

Every year, board members conduct election among its ranks pursuant to Republic Act No. 10149 otherwise known as the GOCC Law.

This is the first time in the history of PHLPost to elect its Chairman as the Postmaster General and CEO. (JMP/PIA-NCR)
