MANILA, (PIA) — The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has announced the resumption of the issuance of the Postal functional card, commonly known as the Postal ID. This service began on October 15, 2024, at all capturing and registration Post Office sites across the country.
The Postal ID serves as an address verification tool, ensuring the correct delivery of letters and parcels. Recognized as a government-issued ID, it allows both government and private institutions to verify a recipient’s identity and address, aligning with practices adopted by postal administrations worldwide.
For enhanced security, PHLPost offers a Postal ID (PID) Online Verification System (POVS). This web portal enables end-users, such as private companies and government agencies, to confirm the authenticity of the Postal ID presented to them.
“Government entities and private institutions can rely on the Postal ID for identity verification, particularly for passport applications at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA),” PHLPost said in a statement.
To apply for a Postal ID, the public is advised to visit PHLPost’s official website at www.phlpost.gov.ph for a list of capturing and registration locations. Applications must be submitted on-site, where individuals will have their picture, fingerprints, and signature taken. The process is designed to be straightforward, provided that all requirements are met.
As this developed, Postmaster General Luis Carlos warned the public about potential scams related to Postal ID processing.
“We expect a surge in applications, and the public should be vigilant against scammers trying to obtain personal information through text messages or social media,” Carlos said. “Apply for a Postal ID only at PHLPost offices. Do not share personal or financial information through unofficial channels.”
The Postal ID, valid for three years, is widely accepted for postal transactions globally, recognized by the Universal Postal Union, which encompasses 192 postal administrations. The ID will be delivered directly to the recipient’s mailing address, further verifying the cardholder’s information.
To improve accessibility, PHLPost plans to introduce PID mobile enrollment services in barangays, business companies, organizations, and events.
Additionally, the organization is enhancing its mail and parcel delivery systems through initiatives such as the establishment of Barangay Postal Stations, a new seven-digit alphanumeric ZIP code system, and the Kartero App (K-App) for real-time tracking of Postal ID Card deliveries.
“Address verification is a fundamental service offered by postal administrations worldwide, and we are committed to bringing our services closer to the community,” Carlos added.
