Aside from its breathtaking Kapati Waterfalls, Magpet, Cotabato Province, has introduced a unique attraction—the first-ever glass footbridge over a waterfall.
The exciting addition to the spot has already become a popular attraction for tourists from within the province and surrounding regions, offering visitors a unique experience to walk above cascading waters while enjoying stunning views of the natural landscape below.
Known as the “verdant land of countless waters,” Magpet lies at the foothills of Mt. Apo, the highest mountain peak in the Philippines.
With its lush vegetation and mountainous terrain, the municipality is home to numerous waterfalls that attract nature lovers and adventurers alike.
Engr. Garry Fernandez, owner of RYCH Highland Resort and Kapati waterfalls, including the newly constructed footbridge, discussed plans to boost tourism in the area in support of the municipal government’s efforts.
“Actually, pagkatapos nito, inumpisahan namin ‘yong roads, and then after sa roads, meron kasi kaming source ng hot spring, so ide-develop namin after matapos namin ‘yong roads, kasi maraming nagtatanong regarding sa roads,” Fernandez said, emphasizing the ongoing improvements to the road leading to the attraction, which had been a challenge for visitors.
(Actually, after finishing the footbridge, we started working on our roads. We have a natural hot spring that we plan to develop after the road works are complete
because many tourists have been asking about it.) In addition to the glass footbridge, tourists can also explore the beauty of cold springs, rivers, and even an infinity pool with natural water.
“’Yong pinakamaraming na-record namin, 1,700 katao sa isang araw, pero dahil hirap ng daanan, kaya ginagawa talaga naming yong daanan sa ngayon para hindi mahirapan ‘yong tourists natin na pumunta dito,” he added.
(The highest number of visitors we’ve recorded in a single day is 1,700 people, but the poor road condition going to the spot was a hindrance. We’re focusing on improving the access to make it easier for tourists.)
In addition to enhancing infrastructure, Fernandez and his team are also committed to preserving the natural beauty of the tourist spot and maintaining its environmental integrity by planting more trees around the area.
The management’s long-term goal is to boost local economic growth by creating more jobs in food and hospitality services, souvenir sales, and tourism-related activities.
As the development continues, visitors from different areas can look forward to even more attractions and activities in the near future, making it a must-visit destination for those who are looking for an unforgettable experience. (CRM – PIA Cotabato Province)
