CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — Promoting adolescent health and youth empowerment for a united and progressive future, the Philippine Information Agency-10 organized the Bagong Pilipinas Youth Forum that brought together over 50 students from the City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) on November 29.

“The Bagong Pilipinas transformation is the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., for a better Philippines rooted in inclusivity and participatory governance,” said PIA-10 Assistant Regional Head Apipa Bagumbaran.
She said Bagong Pilipinas is not a government program but rather a call for transformation for a more fair and resilient nation. “It is about working together to overcome challenges and creating opportunities for every Filipino,” said Bagumbaran.

For his part, Dr. Jestoni Babia, CCCDO president, urged the learners to stay vigilant, engage in societal issues, learn about government programs, and join positive social movements rather than contribute to societal problems.

“This is a very timely forum for all of us, especially since we are all challenged to be part of and be proactive in the many challenging issues that we are facing right now in our country,” he said, adding that the youth’s voice is important and must be heard.

“You are part of the challenge and greater opportunity,” said Babia.

Ivy Gayle L. Oliverio, CapDev/field coordinator of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD)-10, updated the learners on adolescent health and development and encouraged the youth not to compare themselves to others.

Such an attitude may lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms and severe depression, said Oliverio.

“To nurture our positive body image, love yourself. Dawata kung kinsa ka ug unsa ka (accept who and what you are). Open yourself to feedback for self-improvement, and value and respect each other’s individuality,” she said.

As youth and future leaders, kailangan nato mag-take og action para sa Pilipinas in terms of unsa’y dapat bag-uhon.”

(Bagong Pilipinas youth forum is really a big help. As youth and future leaders, we need to take action for the Philippines in terms of what needs to be changed.)

Tulang dreams of a Philippines where no one lives in fear and anxiety—a country where opportunity is equal for everyone.
