VIRAC, Catanduanes (PIA) — The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) collaborated with the Catanduanes Government Communicators Network (CGCN) to organize an information and service caravan in a village in this island province.
Representatives of 31 national government agencies in the province took part in a feeding and tree planting activity at barangay Timbaan in San Andres town.
In addition to offering free services, the agency representatives provided information to the villagers about their programs, projects, and services.
The feeding was for school children, senior citizens, and lactating mothers at the Timbaan Elementary School Covered Court.
This initiative received support from the Provincial Nutrition Office, the Philippine Statistics Authority, the Provincial Cooperative and Development Authority Office, and Catanduanes State University, which introduced its Edukain Program.
CatSU offered medical and dental services and conducted free medical check-ups for 35 individuals and dental check-ups with fluoride applications for 46 primary-grade pupils.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) provided free massages, haircuts, pedicures, and manicures.
The Department of Agriculture and the Provincial Agricultural Services Office distributed vegetable seeds and farm tools to selected farmer organizations in the barangay.
The head of Timbaan, Vicente Toledo, expressed his gratitude to the participating agencies on behalf of the barangay council as 198 residents availed themselves of their services. The other participating agencies included the Office of Congressman Eulogio Rodriguez, the provincial government of Catanduanes, the Office of Mayor Leo Zafe Mendoza, the Catanduanes Provincial Police Office, Radyo Pilipinas-Virac, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine Health Corp. and Department of Trade and Industry.
