QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Philippine Information Agency (PIA) chief, Director-General Jose A. Torres, Jr. cites the importance of respect for human rights during the launching of the Gender and Development (GAD) Corner located at the PIA Lobby in Quezon City, Monday, September 11, 2023.
DG Torres said that equality is for all, regardless of gender. He was joined by officials and employees of the Philippine Information Agency together with members of the GAD Committee from the Philippine News Agency, Philippine Broadcasting Service, Peoples Television Network, APO Production Unit, and other guests.
“We would like to stress the importance of respect. Ang respeto at paggalang sa karapatan ng bawat isa, mapa lalaki ka man, mapa babae ka man, mapa ano man ang iyong choice,” said Torres.
The PIA chief said that promoting inclusivity and demonstrating equal respect towards individuals, irrespective of their gender preferences, nationality, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds while prioritizing the well-being of women and other members of our society towards advancement is paramount.
“Iisa lang naman po talaga dapat ang mensahe para sa ating lahat, ang paggalang, pag respeto sa ating mga karapatan. Sa mga karapatan ng lahat ng mga tao, ng mga indibidwal, kahit ano pa man ang kaniyang nasyonalidad, relihiyon, at gender preferences.”
Torres expressed hope that the GAD Corner will serve as a reminder of the importance of true respect for the rights of individuals.
“Mas importante po na ating isabuhay ang tunay na respeto at paggalang sa equality. Paggalang [doon] sa tinatawag na mga karapatan.”
PIA Deputy Director-General Ares Gutierrez delivers the welcome remarks as he reiterates PIA’s ommitment to the GAD agenda related to gender equality and women empowerment.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director General Ares Gutierrez said that the PIA reiterates its commitment to the GAD agenda related to gender equality and women empowerment by utilizing PIA’s core competence in development communication, information dissemination, and advocacy work.
DDG Gutierrez also said that the PIA looks forward to joining upcoming activities of the PIA Gad Corner, as well as future collaboration with partner agencies and the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and its attached agencies.
The theme for this year’s GAD observance is “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.” (PIA-NCR)
