SAN FERNANDO City, La Union (PIA) – Thirty-six Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials from various barangays in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, underwent training in photography and videography to enhance their capabilities in information dissemination among their communities.
The training, led by the town’s Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) in collaboration with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Ilocos Region, took place on Thursday, August 15, at the local youth development space in the town hall.
As part of the celebration of this year’s International Youth Day with the theme “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” the training aimed to equip youth leaders with visual communication skills for effective social media engagement with their constituents.
Dr. Fredie Vedania, municipal planning and development coordinator and LYDO designate, said the event is crucial in empowering youth to effectively disseminate information and drive social development.
“Mayor Roque Verzosa Jr. wants the youth leaders to be empowered so that they can in turn also empower their fellow youth in their respective jurisdictions in terms of responsible and accurate downloading of information, news, and policies,” Vedania said.
The speakers of the training include PIA Ilocos Region’s Rocky Bautista, a technical assistant who lectures on photojournalism, and Jolina-Anne C. Lavaro, an audio-visual aids technician for videography.
Bucao West SK Chairperson Marjorie Literato expressed appreciation for the event, finding it informative and engaging.
“It is important because it gives us the information and training that will enhance or develop our ability to disseminate ideas and information in our communities,” Literato said.
Furthermore, LYDO Tagudin will equip youth leaders with the necessary skills through a series of trainings and workshops in the future to sustain effective communication dissemination. (PIA Region 1)
