MARAMAG, Bukidnon (PIA) — To gather valuable insights into the communication needs of local communities and improve the dissemination of government information, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) spearheaded the nationwide assessment of information and communication needs of local communities starting in Maramag, Bukidnon, for northern Mindanao on October 15-16.
Twelve respondents from Barangays South Poblacion and Panadtalan were identified through random sampling to participate in the study.
“Ang usual survey per barangay average namin is 3 hours. If one barangay matapos namin siya by morning, and then ‘yung susunod na barangay, matatapos namin siya sa hapon,” said Rafael Zapanta of the Planning, Communication, and Research Division of PIA Central Office.
(Our usual survey per barangay averages around 3 hours. If we finish one barangay in the morning, we can complete the next one in the afternoon.)

During the visit, the PIA team met with Maramag Mayor Jose Joel Doromal, who expressed his full support for the project. Doromal ensured that the PIA team would receive the necessary assistance to successfully complete the study.
A total of 96 respondents will be surveyed throughout northern Mindanao including barangays in Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, and Misamis Occidental. The findings from the study will contribute to enhancing government communication strategies to better serve the information needs of local communities across the country. (RTP/PIA-10)
