ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) recently held an orientation for barangay information officers of Mambusao town.
Mambusao Information Officer Jerry Lacaurta ensured their full support on the strengthening of the Barangay Information Officers (BIO) Network within their municipality through the orientation organized.
“From the word itself, information officers kamo ang maga-inform sang inyo nga barangay kung ano ang mga programa kag activities [of the government],” Lacaurta said.
(From the word itself, information officer, you will be the one to inform your barangays on the programs and activities [of the government].)
Barangay Poblacion Proper BIO Jacobe Villareal learned more from the orientation about fake news and misinformation and how to counter it through social media.
“Duro it mga experiences nga biktima kita tanan it fake news diba so kung hindi man it fake news, it is more on misinformation. [We’ll] utilize the social media mas manami pa gid guro ja nga [platform] for us maging effective nga information officers it atun nga barangay,” Villareal said.
(There are a lot of instances that we were victims of fake news and if not fake news, it is more on misinformation. We’ll utilize social media, a good platform for us to be an effective information officer in our barangays.)
Furthermore, Villareal became eager to collaborate with PIA to help their barangay connect with government agencies with current social services. (PIA Capiz)
