PIA strengthens information officers network in MIMAROPA

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – Strengthening the network of information officers enhances the overall effectiveness of public communication efforts, contributing to a more informed and engaged citizenry, said the Philippine Information Agency.

PIA MIMAROPA Regional Head Jemin B. Guillermo, during the 2nd Regional Information Officers Organizational Meeting, hosted by the Police Regional Office (PRO) MIMAROPA, on Oct. 18, emphasized the importance of transparency and timely information dissemination in strengthening government communication.

“We need to strengthen our information officers’ group because it has not been organized…because there are no officers. Kaya kailangan na natin itong pagtuunan ng pansin. We are now the face of our agency. Many are relying on us because they believe that we are capable of delivering timely, accurate, and relevant information. And this information is very important for the people, for our public, for our target clients to make intelligent decisions,” she said.

Guillermo said that the value of a strengthened information network lies in its ability to provide information and services straight to the communities.

“Without us [information officers], mahirapan ang ating community, ang ating mga mamamayan na mag-intindi, that’s why we are here. So that’s the importance of having a network because, together, we can bring the services and the information directly to the communities. If we join our forces together as a team, as information officers, we can do more and we can reach more people,” said Guillermo.

Police Col. Rolando C. Lampad, expressed his gratitude to PIA for building a stronger network, sharing best practices, and ensuring that the information officers are all equipped to handle the challenges ahead.

“On behalf of our regional director, Brig. Gen. Roger Quesada, we would like to thank PIA for this meeting because, in this present time, clear and honest communication is more important than ever as the stories we tell and the facts we share help shape public understanding and trust in government initiatives. As we work toward a more progressive Bagong Pilipinas, our roles in bridging the gap between government programs and the public are vital,” he said.

Over 20 information officers from various national government agencies attended the event namely, the National Irrigation Administration, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Office of Civil Defense, Land Transportation Office, Philippine Statistics Authority, National Telecommunications Commission, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Labor and Employment, Marine Industry Authority, Philippine Ports Authority, Philippine Army’s 203rd Infantry Brigade and the Police Regional Office.
