ILOILO CITY (PIA) — The West Visayas State University (WVSU) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Regional Office in Western Visayas forged a partnership through signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), April 25, at the WVSU Main Campus in La Paz, Iloilo City.
This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of both institutions to support and implement key government programs focused on education and research, sustainable governance, public information, and development communication.
“With the key principles of participation, empowerment, sustainability, and inclusivity as springboard, we at the PIA continue to advocate the significance of development communication in promoting informed decision-making, transparency, civic engagement, and behavior change,” said PIA Western Visayas Regional Head EnP Cheryl B. Amor.
Amor signed the MOU on behalf of the PIA Western Visayas, while SUC President IV medical doctor Joselito F. Villaruz for WVSU.
On his part, Villaruz noted that this collaboration is a testament of their commitment to provide the best for students and other stakeholders of the university.
“This partnership with PIA VI represents our collective commitment to ensuring that the truth is not only accessible but also amplified in the right ways. We at WVSU believe in the transformative power of communication — to educate, to empower, and to inspire change,” the university president said.
As presented by WVSU International and Local Linkages Office (ILLO) director Edel Carmela Subong-Csoka, the WVSU and PIA-6, under the MOU, will implement joint projects, information drives, workshops, and forums aimed at raising awareness on government policies, sustainable practices, and civic responsibility.
Further, this initiative will also provide avenues for students and faculty to engage in public discourse and contribute to policy discussions.
With the formalization of this partnership, Amor expressed optimism that the strengthened collaboration will help advance the goal of achieving a “Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Buhay para sa Bawat Pilipino sa Bagong Pilipinas,” especially for the youth of Western Visayas that constitutes 18.3 percent the region’s total population.
“The signing of the memorandum of understanding of PIA Western Visayas with the West Visayas State University is a concrete statement of strengthened commitment towards a well-informed Filipinos and empowered communities,” Amor added.
