ILOILO CITY (PIA) – The information offices of the Iloilo City government, Iloilo Provincial government, and Guimaras Provincial government have been recognized for their best performance in communication works during the Western Visayas Information Officers’ Regional Summit of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-6 on December 12, 2024.
The event, in partnership with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-6, commended the Iloilo City Information Office (CIO) for its consistent, effective, and committed service to the public through information, education, and communication programs.

Aside from the Best Performing Information Office award, PIA-6 also recognized Iloilo City’s information officer, Jeehan Fernandez, as one of this year’s Best Performing Information Officers; while its Facebook page secured the top spot in the Best Facebook Page category; and the city’s newsletter, “Kauswagan” was included in this year’s Hall of Fame awardees.
The Iloilo Provincial Information and Community Affairs Office (PICAO) was also awarded as one of the Best Performing Information Office this year for its efforts in mobilizing stakeholders in responding to their information needs, contributing to the overall growth of the province.
The Guimaras Provincial government, through its Public Information and Relations Section, on the other hand, received its Best Performing Information Office award along with the Best Performing Information Officer award for its information officer, Leizl Galan-Gatinao who was also inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Meanwhile, PIA director general Katherine Chloe S. De Castro, in her video message, acknowledged the dedication of information officers in providing truth, accurate, and relevant information, which made an impact on the communities.
“We are not just messengers; we are champions of development and catalysts of positive change in the grassroots. Through your efforts, government programs and services reach places, touching lives and uplifting communities,” De Castro said.
PIA assistant director general (ADG) for organizational development, international affairs, and quality management lawyer Tadeo Culla, who personally attended the event, stressed that information officers serve as a bridge connecting the government to the people.
“In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, our roles are more crucial than ever. We are tasked with ensuring that accurate and timely information reaches our constituents, empowering them to engage in governance and decision-making,” Culla added. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
