PLGU Quirino holds Environment Month, Climate Change consciousness week celebs

CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA) – – The provincial government here through the Provincial Natural Resources and Environment Office (PNREO) and the Special Projects Unit (SPU) conducted a three-part event in observance of the National Environment Awareness Month and the Climate Change Consciousness Week.

The three-part event commenced with a Tree Nurturing Activity followed by the Installation of Tree Tags at the Legacy Park, Capitol Compound and concluded with the Turnover Ceremony for the Transfer of Technology on Bamboo Propagation and Plantation Establishment.

The PNREO and SPU guide the group in a tree-nurturing exercise during the celebration, and then they put tree tags at the Legacy Park in Capitol Hills, Cabarroguis.

It can be recalled that on September 2022, the PNREO reached out the Ecosystem Research and Development Bureau (ERDB)- Water Resource Research, Development, and Extension Center (WWRRDEC), to seek their valuable assistance in establishing a sustainable bamboo propagation and plantation program.

Forester Estrella A. Pasion, PNREO officer-in-charge, said the EDRB-WWRRDEC promptly responded by providing technical expertise, guidance, and support through a two-day training program which was participated by the PNREO staff, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers, the Kadikitan Association for Community Development (KAFCD), and the Don Mariano Perez (DMP) Farmers Consumer Cooperative.

“The partnership between PNREO and ERDB was forged with the shared goal of promoting environmental sustainability and fostering economic growth through the cultivation of bamboo. Recognizing the versatile uses of bamboo, from construction material to soil erosion prevention, the collaboration aimed to empower local communities and contribute to the country’s renewable energy initiatives,” Pasion said.

The said training was graced by Provincial Administrator Carmelita B. Jimenez, Bamboo Development Council Vice Chairman Johnny Chan, DTI Provincial Director Marry Ann Dy and Provincial Tourism Office Representative Loida Acacio, WWRRDEC Head Helen A. Maddumba-Center Head and staff. (TCB/PIA-2, QUIRINO)
