BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – A senior National Defense official advised the graduating class of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) to always uphold the values of courage, integrity, and loyalty as they embark on their military careers.
“To the graduating class, be ever ready for duty in conflict, crisis or calamity. Never stop learning. Embrace responsibility. Lead with courage and integrity,” Department of National Defense Senior Undersecretary Irineo Espino told the 266- strong PMA SIKLAB-LAYA (Sundalong Isinilang na Kasangga at Lakas ng Ating Bayan para sa Kalayaan) Class of 2025 during the awarding ceremony for outstanding cadets and Cadet Corps Armed Forces of the Philippines on Friday, May 16, 2025.
The class will graduate on May 17, with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as the guest of honor and speaker. Espino, representing Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, emphasized the vital role of the upcoming new military officers in defending the land and its people.
“With our shift to external defense under the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept, your role as defenders of the nation is vital. You are 266-strong and you will be one of our frontliners defending our land, sea, air, and cyberspace with advanced systems,” Espino said.
He added that graduating from PMA is just the beginning of their military service. He encouraged them to always uphold the values and principles instilled in them during their time at the academy.
“When you start your service, do the best service to our country and people. They are proud of you now and make them proud as you render service. Don’t fail them. Always carry with you the values of courage, integrity, and loyalty wherever you are, and whatever you do,” he stated.
A total of 266 cadets composed of 212 males and 54 females, will march the long gray line on Saturday. They will be commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants and ensigns with 137 to serve in the Philippine Army, 58 in the Philippine Air Force, and 71 in the Philippine Navy. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
