BACOLOD CITY (PIA) — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has activated its provincial office (PRO) in the Negros Island Region (NIR).
PRO-NIR is now a separate and distinct police regional office, marking a historic milestone in realizing a more efficient and responsive local police force that will strengthen law enforcement in the newly established region.
Western Visayas police director Brigadier General Jack Wanky was designated officer-in-charge of the newest police regional office in the country.
Wanky exercises administrative supervision and operational control over the police provincial offices of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor, and the city police office of Bacolod.
In his message, during the PRO-NIR activation at Acacia Hotel in this city, Wanky welcomed his assignment as the temporary steward of PRO-NIR until its permanent regional director is designated.
He then expressed his appreciation to Secretary of Interior and Local Government Juanito Victor Remulla and PNP Chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil for the trust and confidence in him in leading PRO-NIR.
“I will muster all means towards steering the NIR police force and carry out the mission to make this region a safe, peaceful, and orderly place to live, work, invest, and do business in,” said Wanky.
DILG Undersecretary for Peace and Order Nestor Sanares graced the event and led the unfurling of the unit color alongside PRO-NIR officials.
Sanares, for his part, said the operationalization of the PRO-NIR will enhance police efficiency and community relations, addressing vulnerabilities in communities, especially in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
“Let us remain committed to our mission of safety and security in this significant chapter of NIR,” the official urged the local police.
Despite the activation of the PRO-NIR, police assignments in the region will continue as is until operational and administrative matters are finalized. (AGP/BPS/PIA Negros Occidental)
