TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Region 2 assessed that the 2025 National and Local Elections in the Cagayan Valley Region were conducted in a generally peaceful and orderly manner.
Police Brig. Gen. Antonio Marallag, regional director, confirmed that no major untoward incidents occurred during election day, despite the elevation of some municipalities from orange to red categories due to isolated election-related incidents during the campaign period.
“There were some reported incidents, but these were minor, such as allegations of vote-buying and technical issues with a few automated counting machines. These did not significantly disrupt the overall election process in the region,” Marallag said.
He added that the PNP deployed additional personnel to ensure safe and orderly elections, particularly in high-risk areas—including red-category municipalities, coastal towns, and island communities.
Meanwhile, Maj. Sharon Mallillin, information officer, shared that 176 regional police officers who were temporarily assigned to assist in areas under the Commission on Election’s control in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) effectively fulfilled their duties.
“They remained safe and performed their responsibilities commendably as members of the Special Electoral Board in BARMM. We are proud of their service. They are expected to return to the region next week,” Mallillin said.
She also added that police officers stationed in various municipalities across Cagayan Valley will remain at their posts until all election paraphernalia are fully retrieved and accounted for. (OTB/PIA Region 2)
