BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – The Abra Police Provincial Office (PPO) is investigating the commotion and shooting incident near a polling place in the capital town of Bangued earlier this election day.
Abra PPO Provincial Community Affairs and Development Unit Chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Pel-ey said that the police received a report of the commotion at Sagap Elementary School, which the PNP’s Quick Response Team (QRT) immediately responded.
“Seven am kaninang umaga, may nai-report na commotion sa Sagap Elementary School, sa isang polling precinct dito sa Bangued. Pumunta ang QRT team natin doon para i-pacify ang nasabing commotion. Afterwhich, na mapacify ‘yong commotion, may narinig silang burst of fire doon sa riverside,” Pel-ey said during a media briefing at the Camp Juan Villamor in Calaba, Bangued.
After the gunshots, Pel-ey said that the QRTs spotted two vehicles, a grey pick-up truck and a Montero Sports Utility Vehicle.
“May nakita sila na dalawang vehicle, isang grey na pick-up and Montero, on a speedy motion, papuntang centro ng Bangued,” Pel-ey confirmed.
Abra police proceeded to Seares Memorial Hospital after receiving a call that two wounded individuals were admitted due to gunshot wounds.
“Around 8:30 ng umaga, may tumawag na staff ng Seares Memorial Hospital informing na dalawang tao na may tama ng baril. Acting to that report, pumunta ang mga investigators natin para ma-interview ang mga biktima,” Pel-ey reported.
He added that the victims are now in stable condition.
“As of now, ginagawa na ng tropa natin ang investigation nila. Magbaback-track pa sila kung sakaling may mga CCTV sa mga daanan,” he shared.
He is appealing to witnesses and anyone who has knowledge about the incident to report to the PNP any relevant information to advance their investigation.
Bangued is one of the election areas of concern in Abra under orange category. (CAGT-PIA CAR, Abra)
