PNP mobilizes over 68,000 personnel nationwide to ensure safe and orderly Holy Week

On this solemn observance of Good Friday, April 18, 2025, the Philippine National Police has deployed a total of 68,465 personnel across the country under “Ligtas SUMVAC 2025” to secure the safety and well-being of Filipinos during the Holy Week celebration.

With millions of Filipinos expected to travel and congregate in churches, pilgrimage sites, transport terminals, beaches, commercial centers, and other public areas, the PNP intensified its presence and operations nationwide. A total of 19,120 personnel were assigned to places of worship, 18,283 to major thoroughfares, 8,711 to transportation hubs and terminals, 10,125 to commercial areas, and 12,226 to other areas of convergence such as tourist spots and recreational sites.

Despite the generally peaceful observance so far, the PNP monitored 28 incidents, including 16 drowning cases in various regions, 2 vehicular accidents in Metro Manila and Region 2, 1 case of arson in the Police Regional Office in Northern Islands Region (PRONIR), and 3 fire incidents reported in Metro Manila, Region 8, and Region 9. Police units, in close coordination with concerned agencies, responded promptly to all reported incidents.

In a statement, PNP Chief, Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, reaffirmed the PNP’s full commitment to ensuring public safety throughout the Holy Week and the rest of the summer season. “The Philippine National Police stands ready to protect and serve our countrymen during this sacred observance. We call on the public to remain vigilant, practice safety measures, and immediately report any untoward incidents to the nearest police station,” he said.

General Marbil added that this comprehensive deployment reflects the PNP’s adherence to the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who emphasized the importance of proactive and people-focused public service, especially during significant national events and holidays.

The PNP continues to urge the public to cooperate with law enforcement personnel on the ground and maintain peaceful and orderly behavior in all areas of activity.
