OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA) — To ensure peace and order ahead of the 2025 midterm elections, the Ozamiz City Police Station, under the leadership of PLtCol. Harvey Abellanosa, held a gun ban kickoff ceremony on January 12, starting at the Labinay Border Control Checkpoint in Barangay Labinay, Ozamiz City.

The operation is a collaborative effort between the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG). This multi-agency partnership underscores the commitment to maintaining public safety and preventing election-related violence.

Abellanosa emphasized the importance of strict implementation of the nationwide gun ban, which aims to curtail the proliferation of firearms during the election period. “This initiative is vital to ensuring a peaceful and secure electoral process,” he said.

The checkpoint at Barangay Labinay serves as a critical control point for monitoring compliance with the gun ban. Authorities are also conducting inspections for other contraband and ensuring that motorists follow road safety protocols.

Military and police personnel are working closely to secure Ozamiz City’s borders. The Armed Forces of the Philippines has deployed additional forces to augment local police efforts. The PCG is responsible for monitoring the city’s coastal areas to prevent any illegal activities during the election period.

Abellanosa urged the public to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious activities. “The success of this gun ban depends not only on law enforcement but also on the active participation of the community,” he added.

The gun ban will remain in effect throughout the election period, with violators facing serious legal consequences, including imprisonment and disqualification from public office.

The Ozamiz City Police Station’s initiative, according to Abellanosa, demonstrates its commitment to preserving democratic processes through vigilance and collaboration. (LGU Ozamiz/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
