PNP, Radyo Pilipinas Agoo team up for public safety awareness

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) — The Ilocos region’s police office has forged a partnership with radio DZAG Agoo to enhance public safety awareness across the region.

Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) and DZAG Radyo Pilipinas Agoo of the Presidential Broadcast Service signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on August 6, 2024.

Police Brigadier General Lou Evangelista, PRO1 director, and Director Rizal Giovanni Aportadera Jr. of the Presidential Broadcast Service-Bureau of Broadcast Services (PBS-BBS) signed the MOU.

“Ligtas Kaalaman” (security awareness) is a key component of Evangelista’s seven-point agenda focused on community engagement, upholding the rule of law, and digital transformation.

The project seeks to educate the public about their rights, local ordinances, and the role of the police in maintaining peace and order.

Evangelista emphasized the importance of the partnership in providing a platform for PRO1 to communicate effectively with the public.

“Makakapagbigay tayo ng mas malawak at mas malinaw na plataporma para sa ating mga adbokasiya, kampanya, at mga programa na magdudulot ng mas epektibong serbisyo sa publiko. Sa tulong ng Presidential Broadcast Service, makakaasa na ang boses ng ating kapulisan ay mas maririnig at mas maiintindihan ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.

(We will be able to provide a broader and clearer platform for our advocacy, campaigns, and programs that will result in more effective public service. With the help of the Presidential Broadcast Service, we can expect that the voice of our police force will be better heard and understood by the people.)

Through “Ligtas Kaalaman,” the public will have direct access to legal experts from PRO1’s Regional Legal Office, providing clear and accurate information on various laws.

Further, the program will use modern technology and media platforms to ensure the widespread reach and accessibility of information.

Radyo Pilipinas Agoo Station Manager Charity Frianeza expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that it aligns with the station’s mandate to disseminate government programs and initiatives.

“As the broadcast arm of the government with a mandate to provide broadcast information to disseminate government programs and initiatives to drumbeat people’s participation in development, we fully support this endeavor that enhances the capability of every individual to know their rights and to educate them about the different laws that will lead them to become empowered,” she said.

An enhanced public awareness could lead to crime prevention and foster a stronger relationship between the police and the community.

By combining the expertise of the police and the media, the collaboration is expected to significantly improve public safety and awareness in the region. (AMB/PIA Region 1)
