PNP Region 1 still on high alert after typhoon Carina

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA)—Super Typhoon Carina left the Philippine area of responsibility Thursday, July 25, but the Police Regional Office 1 remains on high alert as the cyclone has continued to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat), dumping heavy rains.

Earlier on Thursday, state weather bureau PAGASA warned that Carina will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing moderate to intense rains over Luzon’s western portion.

Police Brigadier General Lou Evangelista has directed all police units in the region to stay vigilant and coordinate closely with local government units and other agencies to provide necessary assistance and security to affected communities.

For swift response, 539 personnel from the Regional Reactionary Standby Support Force (RRSSF) have been prepared for deployment.

Also, 72 personnel have already been deployed to affected areas, equipped with prepositioned search and rescue equipment, and the Disaster Incident Management Task Group (DIMTG) has been fully operational.

A total of 2,536 evacuation centers have been prepared to respond to calls for evacuation due to flooding or landslide incidents.

Evangelista also urged all officers to remain vigilant and ensure the well-being of their families, even as he advised residents to prepare emergency kits and cooperate with local authorities’ disaster-mitigation efforts. (AMB/PIA Region 1)
