SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Ilocos Region has seen a significant decline in criminal activities following a successful anti-crime campaign spearheaded by Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) in July.
PBGEN Lou Evangelista, PRO1 regional director, attributed the agency’s accomplishments to the unwavering dedication and professionalism of its personnel.
“Let us uphold our commitment to excellence, integrity, and service to impact the community we serve positively,” Evangelista emphasized.
In its intensified crackdown on illegal drugs, PRO1 conducted 130 operations that led to the arrest of 134 drug personalities.
Authorities seized a staggering P170,570,700 worth of illegal drugs, including 25,081.29 grams of shabu and 149.23 grams of marijuana.
The office also intensified its manhunt operations, resulting in the arrest of 15 most wanted individuals and 330 other wanted persons.
Gambling activities were dealt a heavy blow as PRO1 conducted 80 anti-illegal gambling operations, leading to the arrest of 276 individuals and the confiscation of P107,179.50 in bet money and gambling paraphernalia.
To curb the proliferation of firearms, PRO1 launched 21 operations, resulting in the arrest of 17 individuals and the confiscation of 19 firearms.
Additionally, through the 1,517 “Oplan Katok” operations conducted, authorities recovered 11 firearms, had 124 voluntarily surrendered, and placed 57 firearms in safekeeping.
“Oplan Katok” is a Philippine National Police (PNP) program where police officers visit the houses of gun holders to encourage them to renew their expired licenses or permits to carry.
In the fight against terrorism, PRO1 arrested one individual linked to Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) and convinced 15 others to surrender.
Moreover, 17 members of Communist Front Organizations (CFOs) laid down their arms.
Evangelista emphasized that PRO1 will continue its relentless pursuit of criminals and will intensify its efforts to create a safer and more secure environment for the people of Ilocos. (AMB/PIA Region 1)
