ILOILO CITY — As the May 2025 midterm election period comes close, authorities here intensified security measures starting with the filing of certificates of candidacy on October 1-8, 2024.
Police Regional Office 6 regional director BGen Jack Wanky ordered the provincial and city directors to closely coordinate with their respective election officers and supervisors to plan the suitable deployment and security measures based on the prevailing situation and peculiarity in their areas to ensure peaceful and orderly elections.
“Let me remind you that our focus on the election preparations must not overshadow our anti-criminality campaigns and anti-illegal drugs operations. This must mean intensifying our efforts,” Wanky said in a command conference.
Based on the data of PRO-6, some 295 police personnel were deployed in the provinces of Western Visayas.
Of the figure, 97 were assigned in Iloilo Police Provincial Office, 62 in Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, 40 in Antique Police Provincial Office, 36 in Aklan Police Provincial Office, 34 in Capiz Police Provincial Office, 12 in Iloilo City Police Office, 10 in Guimaras Police Provincial Office, and four in Bacolod City Police Office.
Among the security protocols implemented were increased police visibility in identified public places, checkpoints, intensified intelligence monitoring, and other police actions and interventions that prevent the occurrence of crimes.
Further, the region’s top cop reminded the personnel to always uphold the law and order with high respect for human rights, perform their duties professionally and remain non-partisan. (AAL/LMLE/PIA Iloilo/PRO-6)
