Police, LGU, and community efforts lead to crime-free Ifugao town

Police Staff Sergeant Nygel P. Cuyahon and Police Corporal Joydee K. Laureta from Asipulo Municipal Police Station (MPS) share their office programs and updates during the Hummangan with PIA radio program on Radyo Kiphodan 99.1 FM.

ASIPULO, Ifugao (PIA) — The municipality of Asipulo in Ifugao remained generally peaceful with zero incidence of crimes reported from January to July 2024.

Police Staff Sergeant Nygel P. Cuyahon and Police Corporal Joydee K. Laureta of Asipulo Municipal Police Station (MPS) shared during the “Hummangan with PIA” radio program that this was achieved through the active participation of the community and volunteer groups.

One best practice in maintaining peace and order in the municipality is the “Man-ili,” a community organization formed to support all members of the community, especially during family affairs such as weddings, anniversaries, death, and parties, among others. The Man-ili group strengthens traditional support systems such as the baddang (bayanihan) practice.

The “Man-ili” group also helps ensure that community members follow municipal ordinances, such as the liquor ban and restrictions on illegal gambling.

The establishment of Man-ili or Fimobloy organizations in all barangays within the municipality of Asipulo is institutionalized under Municipal Ordinance No. 2020-02. The municipal government has allocated Php 100,000.00 for this program. The ordinance also encourages Man-ili organizations to be accredited by the Sangguniang Bayan. Accredited Man-ili organizations can request assistance, in cash or in kind, from any agency, provided they present valid accreditation documents and a resolution duly signed and approved by their officers.

Cuyahon and Laureta also shared that the Asipulo MPS is sustaining the implementation of the Enhanced Managing Patrol Operations. It includes daily checkpoints, mobile and foot patrols, police presence in areas of convergence, barangay visitations, and Police Community Relations activities such as community engagement and distribution of information, education, and communication materials.

The officers emphasized the firm stance of municipal and barangay officials along with the Asipulo MPS in combating illegal gambling and illegal drugs. Asipulo is a drug-free municipality. (FBR, PIA-CAR, Ifugao)
