SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) — The Police Provincial Office (PPO) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) in Occidental Mindoro have reminded travelers during the Holy Week break to ensure their safety.
According to Police Lt. Col. Ariel Roldan, chief of the PPO’s Police Community Affairs and Development Unit, giving vacationers a heads up will help them enjoy a safe and smooth journey.
Among the key reminders are the use of BLOWBAGETS before hitting the road. This is a checklist for private vehicle owners which stands for Battery, Lights, Oil, Water, Brakes, Air, Gas, Engine, Tires, and Self.
Roldan also urged drivers to familiarize themselves with traffic rules and practice defensive driving.
He also advised travelers to stay hydrated to prevent heat stroke, wear comfortable clothing for long trips, and choose a vehicle with a well-functioning air conditioning system to enhance travel comfort.
For those leaving their homes for extended periods, Roldan cautioned against posting vacation plans on social media, as this could attract burglars. Instead, he recommended asking a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on the house.
Meanwhile, PPA Acting Division Manager Guerrero Miranda also reminded for sea travelers, saying “Tickets at the port are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and long lines are expected on peak travel days.”
He also reminded travelers to be aware of restrictions at their destinations, such as pork products being strictly prohibited in Occidental Mindoro, and bladed weapons that are not allowed aboard ships.
Miranda revealed that four shipping lines currently operate the Batangas–Abra de Ilog route: Orange Navigation, Besta Shipping Lines, Shogun Shipping Incorporated, and Montenegro Shipping Lines.
He hopes that the number of trips made by these ships to and from the province is sufficient to prevent excessively long queues of passengers and vehicles.
As additional tips, Miranda urged passengers to plan their trips in advance to avoid delays, ensure they do not forget any essential items, and avoid traveling during busy times. (VND/PIA MIMAROPA–Occidental Mindoro)
