Police report peaceful 2025 Holy Week observance in Baguio, Kalinga

BAGUIO CTIY (PIA) – Baguio City experienced a peaceful and safe 2025 Holy Week observance with no reported index crimes during the period.

“Una sa lahat nagpapasalamat po tayo dahil nairaos po natin ang Holy Week na generally peaceful. While there were some vehicular traffic accidents, for crimes lalo na iyong focus or index crime ay zero po tayo,” Baguio City Police Office Director Police Colonel Ruel Tagel said.

Focus or index crimes include murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping of both motor vehicles and motorcycles.

He said the successful implementation of IMPLAN:”Kalmang Paglalakbay” or Kaagapay sa Ligtas at Maginhawang Paglalàkbay significantly contributed to the generally peaceful observance of 2025 Holy Week in the city.

“IMPLAN Kalmang Paglalakbay” covers public safety plan, security plan, traffic plan, and ang pinaka importante is iyong dissemination ng information so that every resident and tourist are informed sa kinakailangan nilang malaman,” Tagel explained.

The week-long security and public safety operations under IMPLAN “Kalmang Paglalakbay” ensured a heightened police presence at terminals, churches, tourist spots, and other areas of convergence.

Police personnel were strategically deployed to manage traffic flow, respond to emergencies, and provide assistance to both residents and tourists.

Tagel urged the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and comply with local ordinances.

Meanwhile, the Kalinga Provincial Police Office (KPPO) also recorded zero casualty during this year’s Holy Week observance from April 17 to 20, 2025.

Police Captain Christy Mae Pacia said the tireless efforts of the police, local government units and other concerned agencies in ensuring safety during the Semana Santa have paid off as there was no fatality recorded during the four-day observance.

“Sa kabuuan daytoy kalkalpas nga holy week ket maibaga nga successful ta awan ti napasamak nga gulo or any incident like drowning kadagitoy picnic areas iti Kalinga,” Pacia said.

Kalinga had been recording drowning incidents during the Holy Week in the previous years.

“Even kadagiti accident ket bassit lang iti recorded. Dagitoy umili ket isuda mismo iti nag-annad para iti bagbagi da. Kasi dagitoy nalnalpas nga holy week ket ammu da nga basta holy week ket adu ti malmes,” Pacia said.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Kalinga that served as first responders to traffic accidents during the Holy Week added that the victims who were immediately brought to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital suffered only minor injuries.

The BFP-Kalinga is continuously conducting fire prevention campaign amid the dry season while the KPPO continues with the implementation of Oplan Sumvac. (JDP/MAWC & RGA-PIA CAR)
