ILOILO CITY (PIA) – – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Iloilo is encouraging the active participation of Ilonggos for the census of population (POPCEN) which started on July 15 in the city and province.
More than 2,000 field personnel were deployed to visit homes and collect relevant data for the 2024 POPCEN conducted alongside the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS).
Of the total number of field personnel, around 1,829 were tasked to ensure the complete enumeration in the province and 271 in the city. They are composed of enumerators, team supervisors and census area supervisors.
Originally, according to PSA-Iloilo, the CBMS was scheduled for 2025, however, to minimize respondent fatigue and optimize government resources this is conducted simultaneously with POPCEN this year.
The last POPCEN was conducted in 2020 indicating some 2,051,899 population in the province of Iloilo and around 2,509,525 in total to include Iloilo City.
For the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS, data collected will be used in updating the inventory of the population of the country, as well as the list of beneficiaries of social protection initiatives. It will also serve as a basis for targeting households in the planning, formulation, and implementation of programs and projects geared towards poverty alleviation.
On the other hand, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. directed PSA to update the list of beneficiaries for social protection programs, such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), through CBMS. This update aims to enhance the effectiveness and responsiveness of the government’s anti-poverty efforts.
In support of the conduct of the 2024 POPCEN-CBMS, President Marcos has declared July 2024 as the “National Census and Community-based Monitoring System Month” in the country.
The POPCEN-CBMS is expected to end in September this year. (AAL/LAF/PIA6-Iloilo/PSA-Iloilo)
