TUBOD, Lanao del Norte (PIA) — The provincial government here, through its Provincial Veterinary Office, has provided much-needed livelihood assistance to small-scale poultry farmers under the 20 percent Development Fund for 2024.
The initiative, which aims to uplift the economic conditions of small poultry raisers, has benefitted 48 farmers from the municipalities of Baroy, Tubod, Sapad, Bacolod, Kapatagan, Munai, Tagoloan, Lala, and Poona Piagapo. The package was designed to enhance their egg production capabilities.
Each beneficiary received one module consisting of 40 ready-to-lay chickens, a set of layer cages with a feeder and waterer, 10 egg trays, 3 packs of vitamin powder, and 3 bags of feeds.

According to Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Fritzie Provido, the program’s primary goal is to improve the local production of eggs, which are often sourced from outside the province despite some production happening within Lanao del Norte. She emphasized that the assistance would help local farmers increase their production, even if it may not immediately lead to large-scale output.
“Ang pinaka-purpose ani is para ma-enhance ang atong egg production kay kung na-notice ninyo, ang mga table eggs na naa sa merkado usually dili sa Lanao del Norte gi-produce kun dili outside. Naa man gali ga-produce diri pero kulangon gihapon siya. For enhancement lang ni siya, dili ingon ana kadako pero ma-enhance lang ang production,” she said.
(The main purpose of this is to enhance our egg production because, if you notice, the table eggs available in the market are usually not produced in Lanao del Norte but from outside. There are some being produced here, but it’s still insufficient. This is just for enhancement—not something huge, but it will help improve production.)
The initiative is also a part of the provincial government’s ongoing support for the agricultural and livestock sectors, which have faced significant challenges over the years due to armed conflicts and natural disasters.
Provincial Board Member Abdany C. Buanding, who also serves as vice chairperson of the Committee on Agriculture, highlighted the importance of the initiative and reminded the beneficiaries to take good care of the provided resources.
“Kung unsa man ang inyong nakuha nga gikan sa probinsya, inyo kana ampingan. Kay inyo ng ampingan, 100 percent makatabang gyud na sa inyong panginabuhi,” he said.
(Whatever you have received from the province, you should take care of it. By taking care of it, it will definitely help your livelihood 100 percent.)
The PVO will closely monitor the project and provide technical assistance in collaboration with the municipal agriculture offices of the nine municipalities. This partnership ensures that the farmers receive the necessary support to maximize the benefits of the program and further strengthen the province’s agricultural sector.
Beneficiaries also expressed their gratitude for the provincial government’s assistance, acknowledging the positive impact on their livelihoods. They hoped that the support would help them overcome economic difficulties and provide more stable incomes for their families. (PIO Lanao del Norte/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
