PPA assures assistance to 7,313 stranded passengers amid STS Kristine response

QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is helping 7,313 stranded passengers affected by Severe Tropical Storm (STS) ‘Kristine’ (Trami).

PPA Assistant General Manager Mark Palomar said, “We are committed to helping stranded passengers during this difficult time.” The PPA is also urging passengers to check with shipping lines for the latest trip updates.

The PPA joined in a press briefing today, October 24, 2024, alongside the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR), to discuss the government’s response to Severe Tropical Storm (STS) ‘Kristine’.

The briefing highlighted the coordinated efforts of various government agencies in providing essential services and assistance to communities affected by the storm.

As of 10:00 AM today, the PPA reported more than 7,000 stranded passengers nationwide, with 14 Port Management Offices canceling trips due to the storm’s impact.

To ensure the well-being of stranded passengers, the PPA has activated Malasakit Help Desks at various ports, providing assistance and support. These desks are on standby to address passenger concerns and offer guidance.

The agency’s proactive measures demonstrate its commitment to passenger safety and welfare amidst the storm’s impact. The PPA continues to work closely with other government agencies to ensure a coordinated and effective response to STS ‘Kristine’. (PIA DMD)
