PPA ensures family, community support for parolees, pardonees

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – – The Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) Region 2 ensures that Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) who are granted parole and conditional pardon have family and community support whenever they are reintegrated into their society.

Regional Director Benita L. Maramag said part of the evaluation conducted by the parole officers is to check if the candidate for parole or pardon is accepted by their respective families and in the community.

“We also consider the safety of both the PDL and the community,” Maramag said.

She said that documents and investigation reports of the candidates are submitted to the Board of Pardons and Parole for further assessment before releasing them into their communities.

“The Board has the authority to recommend parole based on these reports, and the President makes the final approval to determine the applicant’s qualifications,” she said.

Maramag clarified that the investigation cases involve a court order for the PPA to assess individuals sentenced to six years or less, providing the jurisdiction over their probation applications.

“After a thorough investigation and submission of a Post-Investigation Report to the court, if the court approves the PPA’s recommendation, an order for supervision is issued,” she added.

Maramag also noted that while some PDLs are released under conditional pardon, such cases are carefully screened, and their community situations are thoroughly assessed.

The PPA aims to ensure a positive reintegration experience for PDLs after their release.

“Not all incarcerated individuals are guilty; hence, we should provide them with a chance to reform within society, showing that they are committed to change and seeking a fresh start,” Maramag added. (OTB/MJFJ/PIA Region 2)
