SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) – The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) recently held a career development seminar aimed at providing graduating agriculture students with insights into various potential career paths.
During the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas event in Calapan City on Dec. 11, PRC MIMAROPA Regional Director Reynaldo Agcaoili reported that this initiative is part of their annual Career Development Support Program, designed to help individuals identify opportunities in their chosen fields.
As part of the program, board examiners who develop licensure examination questions are invited to share their expertise and insights on finding suitable jobs.
Future licensed agriculturists were informed about various available opportunities beyond traditional roles, such as becoming researchers, professors, agriculture technicians, or even entrepreneurs.
“Hindi dahil agriculture course kinuha mo, magsasaka at mangingisda na ang trabaho mo,” Agacoili said.
(Just because you are enrolled in agriculture course does not mean that you will only work as a farmer or fisherman.)
He also expressed concern over the significant decline in enrollment in agriculture courses, despite local government scholarship programs aimed at encouraging youth to pursue agriculture studies.
This drop in student numbers may impact the availability of agriculture programs in colleges and the number of qualified faculty members.
Agcaoili remains hopeful that more young people will be motivated to pursue agriculture-related courses, especially in MIMAROPA, where agriculture serves as the backbone of the economy. (VND/PIA MIMAROPA – Occidental Mindoro)
