PRC volunteers aid communities after Mayon lahar

GUINOBATAN, Albay – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Albay Chapter sprang into action following a lahar flow from Mayon Volcano, triggered by heavy rainfall associated with Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

A total of 143 PRC volunteers and staff were deployed to monitor and assess the situation in Purok 3 and 8, Brgy. Marasawang, Guinobatan, Albay.

The lahar flow, measuring approximately 1 meter in height, impacted the area, rendering some roads impassable and causing mud to enter several houses.

However, according to the PRC volunteers on the ground, no evacuations or casualties were reported. A total of 21 families were affected by the incident.

The PRC Albay Chapter has initiated a clearing operation, which is expected to last for two to three days. The operation will be extended if heavy rainfall continues in the area.

The PRC’s ongoing efforts underscore the organization’s commitment to providing assistance and ensuring the safety of communities affected by natural disasters.
