PNP strengthens ties with churches, inks MOU for of ‘Ugnayan ng Simbahan At Pulisya’ (USAP) program and launches e-Gabay Program Chaplain Service

QUEZON CITY -- In response to the psychospiritual needs of the PNP personnel especially during this time of the pandemic, the Philippine National Police through its Chaplain Service launched the e-GABAY program and signs a Memorandum of Understanding with major church bodies in the Philippines.

The said event was graced by PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T Eleazar, Chief PNP, PNP Command Group, Police Brigadier General Jason Ortizo, Director of PNP Chaplain Service, Reverend Honesto Ongtiongo DD, Bishop of the Diocese of Cubao, Aleem Said Ahmad Basher, Chairman, Imam Council of the Philippines, Bishop Rodolfo Juan, Dean Protestant Chaplains, National Council of Churches in the Philippines, and Bishop Noel Pantoja, National Director of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches.

The e-Gabay is a platform for a helping relationship between Values Life Coaches and PNP Personnel. The e-Gabay posters with cell phone numbers will be posted in all quarantine facilities, PNP offices and all Police Stations nationwide as easy access for all PNP personnel who are in need of psychospiritual/therapeutic conversation and counseling as the need arises.

Meanwhile, the signing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of “Ugnayan ng Simbahan at Pulisya” (USAP) was made between the PNP and Major Church Bodies including the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines; Imam Council of the Philippines; National Council of Churches in the Philippines; and Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches. The purpose of MOU is to strengthen the collaboration with the Major Churches in achieving our Charter Statement that all PNP personnel shall be God-Centered, Service-Oriented, and Family-Based public servants.

"Ang PNP sa pamamagitan ng aming Chaplain Service ay patuloy sa pagbibigay importansya sa moral at spiritual capacity ng bawat pulis lalo ngayong mayroong pandemya, ito ay nakapailalim rin sa ating Intensified Cleanliness Policy. One of the core values of the PNP is "Makadiyos", which manifests our strong will to communicate with God and live by his teachings and to actualize His wisdom in the everyday fulfillment of our job as police officers and public servants." Eleazar said.

"Aside from enhancing equipage, training, shelter and salary increase, part of our morale and welfare enhancement is to uplift the spiritual and morale capability of our personnel and their dependents", he added.
