Police recover anti-personnel mines in the hinterlands of E. Samar

BORONGAN CITY -- Through the active and consistent support of the community and with the aid of former rebels, four (4) improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were successfully recovered at Brgy. Burak, Llorente, Eastern Samar.

Elements of the Provincial Intelligence Unit in coordination with Llorente MPS under the supervision and control of PCol. Matthe L Aseo, ESPPO provincial director, and intelligence personnel of 78th IB, under the supervision of Lt. Col Oliver C. Alvior, commanding officer, conducted an intelligence-driven operation on July 28 about 4 a.m in the boundaries of Llorente, Eastern Samar and Basey, Western Samar.

The former rebels led the recovery of four (4) anti-personnel mines (IEDs) at “Asway River” of Brgy Burak, which is more or less 10.26 kilometers air distance from the aforementioned Barangay.

Said area is where Front Committee South East of SRC SESAME, EVRPC operates with SEC: Gavino Guarino alias “Mael/Suyo” as commander/leader.

Recovered from the said area are the following: one (1) piece improvised landmine marked “ILM-1” made from PVC pipe with dimensions 20 inches in height, 7 inches in diameter and 7 kg in weight; one (1) piece IED (Claymore Mine) marked as ICM-1” made from PVC pipe with dimensions 11 inches length, 4 inches width and 3 inches height with 2.5 kg in weight;  one (1) piece IED (Claymore Mine) marked as ICM-2” made from PVC pipe with dimensions 11 inches length, 4 inches width and 3 inches height with 2.5 kg in weight; one (1) piece IED (Claymore Mine) marked as ICM-3” made from PVC pipe with dimensions 11 inches length, 4 inches width and 3 inches height with 2.5 kg in weight.

Recovered IEDs were brought to the provincial police office for proper disposition.

The police believe that the recovery of the anti-personnel mines is a clear manifestation of the positive impact of the combined and unwavering effort in community relations, organizing of advocacy support groups from the various sectors of the community, and the Retooled Community Support Programs.
