RAFC-10 bags PCAF award for livestock disease control, prevention

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY  (PIA)--The Regional Agricultural Fishery Council (RAFC)-10 was cited as an awardee of the Avant-Garde for Livestock Disease Control and Prevention by the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fishery (PCAF), March 24.

Incumbent RAFC-10 Chair, Reynaldo Cabanao received the award during PCAF's 7th National Volunteers' Day (NVD) held in Mabalacat, Pampanga.

Members of the Northern Mindanao’s Provincial, Municipal, and City Agri-fishery Council attended the activity virtually in a gathering organized by RAFC-10 in Cagayan de Oro City.

The NVD is staged annually by the PCAF to recognize exemplary volunteerism of the men and women behind the country's Agri-Fishery Councils (AFCs) nationwide.

This year's theme, "AFC Unifying and Leading Transformation Towards Masaganang Ani, Mataas na Kita" is reflective of PCAF's aspirations in catalyzing change and fueling the country's agri-fishery development in the New Normal era.

DA-RFO 10 Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado applauded the RAFC-10’s for their efforts and contributions amid the compounding adversities of the CoVID-19 pandemic and the African Swine Fever (ASF) infestation in northern Mindanao.

He called on the region's AFCs to remain steadfast in serving as a consultative body for continuing dialogues with the DA and the agriculture and fisheries sector in the region.

For his part, Cabanao vowed to focus on AFCs’ capacity building and partnership development through dialogue in his helm as RAFC-10 Chair this year.

Through the AFCs, the Department of Agriculture harnessed favorable partnerships with the private sector and community-based organizations to effect agri-fishery development initiatives at the municipal, city, provincial, regional and national levels.

In this year's National Volunteers' Day, PCAF also recognized RAFC-10 Chair Emeritus, Prof. Edgardo Layug as one of the country’s Outstanding AFC Chair Emeritus.

Layug served as RAFC-10 Chair for 23 years in 1988-2001 and 2010-2020. (DA-10/PIA-10)
