NDRRMC, OCD on Red Alert for Nat’l Election

QUEZON CITY -- With the national and local election coming Monday next week, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), through the NDRRM Operations Center will be on RED ALERT status to support the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in COVID-proofing the May 09, 2022 election.

The said action is in accordance with National Task Force Against COVID-19’s (NTF) released Memorandum No. 6 s, 2022 on May 02, directing the OCD, all Regional Task Forces (RTFs), and RDRRMCs to coordinate and mobilize member agencies to adhere to the requirements and needs set by the COMELEC through its field offices.

The OCD, together with its Regional Offices, as the head of the Task Group Resource and Management and Logistics, is also tasked to facilitate and coordinate the provision of medical supplies and other logistical requirements for COVID-19 operations as may be needed for the upcoming election.

Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito R Alejandro IV, OCD’s deputy administrator for Operations, echoed the NTF’s call for vigilance against COVID-19, “Despite these circumstances, we urge our countrymen to keep the “Bayanihan Spirit” alive to ensure a safe and healthy national and local elections.”

The election this May 9 2022 will be a historic event for the Philippines as the COVID-19 threat still lurks in the background. Previously, COMELEC officials met with the NTF and OCD at the NDRRM Operations Center to discuss means to protect voters against COVID-19 and allow voters with symptoms to cast votes during election day.
