DENR-10 celebrates environment month thru simultaneous tree planting

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)--The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-10 alongside private and public stakeholders in northern Mindanao joined the Philippine Environment Month Celebration nationwide simultaneous tree planting activity to bring awareness to the region’s environmental issues and help restore the region’s forest cover, June 8.

Anchored on this year’s global theme, “Only One Earth,” the country observes the month-long event with the local theme, “Aksyon Para sa Natatanging Mundo,” which highlights the call for action to celebrate, protect and restore the planet.

A total of 24,145 seedlings of various forest and fruit-bearing tree species, such as Narra, Molave, Bamboo, Lanzones, Mangosteen, Rambutan, and other indigenous tree species were planted during the tree growing activity at the Malasag Reforestation Project, Cugman, here. While 5,159 participants planted 29,061 seedlings of indigenous tree species in Camarahan, Barangay Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City during Arbor Day.

June was declared as Philippine Environment Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 237 signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino, April 4, 1988. (DENR-10/PIA-10)
