One hundred thirty-two rice farmers from the Municipality of Maria, Siquijor received fertilizer subsidy from the Department of Agriculture 7.
Distributed by the Provincial Agricultural Technology Coordinating Office Siquijor, the fertilizer subsidy amounting to P139,530 is expected to reduce the fertilizer expenses of the rice farmer beneficiaries.
Based on DA Memorandum Circular 21, series of 2021 signed by then DA Secretary William Dar, the distribution was in the form of e-vouchers bearing the name of the rice farmer and other demographics, location of the farm, and total area dedicated for hybrid rice production.
Governor Jake Vincent Villa and Provincial Agriculturist Emigdio Coritico both said the rising prices of fertilizers distressed the farmers, and they thanked DA for assisting the rice farmers in alleviating their burden on fertilizer cost.
“Ang pagpabilin nga ubos ang presyo sa mga panginahanglanon sa pagpanguma - pinaagi man sa subsidyo o uban pang paagi sa tabang - importante kaayo kini sa atong mga mag-uuma ug mga konsumidor kay kini nagsiguro sa food security (It is important for the farmers and consumers that prices of farm inputs remain affordable, may it be through subsidy or any assistance, because it assures food security)," said Villa.
The fertilizer amount received by the rice farmers was based on their declared area of rice production for hybrid seeds from the previous year under the Rice Resiliency Project II. (PR)
